Practice #22 Getting ready for Fuquay

As the Lady Jags prepare for to put their 9-1 overall record and 4-1 Tri-9 record on the line Thursday night they are looking to continue their journey toward a conference title. Since rejoining the league four years ago the Lady Jags have not lost to Fuquay going 7-0. Although to date Fuquay has not been able to compete with the Jags, they have made great stides toward that goal in recent years.

Come out and see the Jaguars play Thursday night and watch the three seniors in action again.
Let's get ready 4 Fuquay

Lady Jags blast Panther Creek after sluggish start

Panther Creek sprinted out to an 8-3 lead before Athens took charge with a 18-3 run to end the 1st quarter. The Catamounts trailed 39-19 at the half. Athens completely dominated the third quarter 20-7 and led after three quarters 59-26.

Athens completed the blow out in the 4th quarter to by outscoring the Catamounts 12-4. The final margin was 71-30.

We came out and allowed them to get off to a good start. Panther Creek is much improved and once they figure out that they can complete with the good teams in our conference they are going to be a handfull.

The Jaguars will host Fuquay on Thursday at 7:30 before hosting the 2nd Annual Athens Winter Classic next week. The Jaguars will play Ravenscroft on Monday and face Southeast Raleigh on Tuesday. Game times are set for 6pm and 7:30 respectively with Athens playing both nights in the late game.

Panther Creek Game

The Lady Jags will travel tonight over to Western Wake County to take on the Panther Creek Catamounts at 7:30pm. The Catamounts have had some close calls this season loosing to Leesville in Double OT, Apex by only 5 points and taking Sanderson down to the last few minutes before falling to the Spartans. Their lone win came in a narrow victory over Fuquay 47-44.

They are a team learning their way in the 4th season. They are learning to compete and its only a matter of time before they upset someone good. We have to go over their knowing that despite their past history of never beating us, that as some point that will come to an end. The Catamounts as coming off of a defeat at the hands of Green Hope 77-36 on Friday night. I am sure that Green Hope probably hit them with their press early, but I think they are much improved over last season and they are capable to beating you if you don't show up with urgency.

Should be a fun one from Morrisville.....

Lady Jags blast Cary!!

The Lady Jags knocked out Cary Friday at Athens gym 65-17. Athens got out to a quick 9-2 lead early in the 1st quarter and 21-5 at the end of the quarter. Leading 40-11 Athens let off of the gas and cruised to a 65-17 final.

The 17 points is the fewest allowed since the Lady Jags allowed 14 to Panther Creek three years ago duirng the Catamounts first season.

The Lady Jags travel to Panter Creek on Tuesday December 15th. Panther Creek. The Catamounts (1-6) have had come very close losses this season recently loosing to Apex by only 4 points and Sanderson by only 9. They are much more competitive and certainly are no longer a pushover.

Athens will need to go over to West Cary ready to play on Tuesday if they want to increase their current 7 game winning streak and its 8-0 record all time vs. Panther Creek.

The Lady Jag JV team is currently 5-4 and having a great season. Go JV's!!!!

Athens vs. Cary (old rivals meet again)

It's time for our second Rivalry game this week. This time the Imps of Cary visit Athens for a match up of 2 teams going in different directions. Cary 1-4 coming off of a thumping at the hands of Green Hope is looking to break back into the win column tonight.

Athens currently on a 6 game winning streak is looking to end a tough stretch of 6 games in just 11 days (5-0 so far) which included a trip to Lee County followed by a home game vs Broughton. The Broughton game was a tough game but the Lady Jags pulled out a 55-50 victory and secured a season sweep. This is the first time in the modern era of Athens Girls Basketball that Athens has swept Broughton during the regualar season.

Athens is currently on a 7 game win streak vs. Cary. The last Cary victory in the series dates back to the Semi-Finals of the Tri-8 tournament in 2007 when Cary defeated Athens 51-48. The last regular season victory Cary had in the series was earlier that season when Cary defended their home floor with a 66-58 win over the Jags.

Any win is a good win...Lady Jags prevail inspite of officials

I guess any win is a good win when there are 56 fouls called and both teams shoot 37 freet throws each!!

We will take the win and advance to 3-1 on the young season. The good news is we shot 59% from the field and did not take bad shots. A few too many turnovers, we can work on those.

Let's get ready for Broughton tonight!!
