The Athens Drive Lady Jaguars responded to their heartbreaking loss to Green Hope ten days ago with a resounding defeat of rival Middle Creek 62-43 Friday night. The win puts Athens in complete control of 2nd place in the Tri-9 with an 8-2 record. The Lady Jags improve to 15-3 overall.
Lainey Childrey led the Lady Jags with a career high 20 points, 6 steals, 5 assists. Seniors Rachel Collins and Keisha Gatling contributed 14 and 10 respectively. Megan starting her first career game scored 6 of her 8 points in the first quarter to keep the Jags close early. Irene Zantus Fortes and Blair Williams chipped in 2 baskets each to finish with 4 apiece.
It was the 7th straight road win for Athens since they lost at Green Hope in the second game of the season. Athens will host Lee County on Tuesday and travel to Cary Friday for a renewal of their rivalry.
